Homewood
My neighbors and I live together and separate from one another, choosing connection or disengagement based on race, economics, religion, politics, or proximity.
While this series was being made there was a deeply controversial move to give Homewood National Historic Designation. Text is from a Facebook conversation among neighbors arguing over historic designation and gentrification.
Homewood considers the physical and psychological space that exists between people. How does this “space between” manifest itself? How do we see or feel this space? We use many criteria to decide what it should look like and different types of separations or connections to define it. The space can take various forms and encompass physical, psychological, and sociopolitical factors, and involve many of the daily micro decisions we make to differentiate ourselves.
